Can GSH Keep Me From Getting COVID-19? The answer is yes.

This is one of three articles on glutathione (GSH) I’m writing. In order to recap, what is glutathione?

Answer: the master antioxidant found in every cell of the human body.

But what does that mean, like what exactly is this specific antioxidant when you break it down?

Answer: it’s made up of 3 amino acids: cysteine, glyceine, and glutamate.

Amino acids are the building blocks of the proteins in our bodies, and proteins run the show. They dictate how so many physiological processes go down.

But what exactly are amino acids, like literally what are they?

Answer: hydrogen, oxygen, carbon, and nitrogen.

I like to break down anatomy and physiology so that I know what I’m working with as well as the origins of things because like Leonardo Di Vinci said, “Learn to see. Realize that everything connects to everything else”.

Now that there’s be a break down of what the antioxidant glutathione (GSH) is, let’s discuss it’s role during this pandemic which will take us back to March 16, 2020.

I was bartending in NY where I came in the Sunday before the lockdown to find kegs upon kegs of Guinness, as well as crates upon crates of corn beef and cabbage. My Irish pub was all set and ready to go for St. Patrick’s Day. It was weird to see because not one restaurant was open for St. Patrick’s in NYC the year of 2020. If they were, they got a huge fine from the FDNY.

It was just a matter of time before the hospitals were flooded with cases of people needing ventilators, respirators, masks, etc. No one knew what the heck was going on with this virus, let alone had a vaccine for it. COVID-19 was taking everyone by shock where we cherished each new fact we learned about it every day.

@surfertoday.com

One of the first things I remember learning was during the summer they discovered many of the victims of COVID were found having a significantly low amount of vitamin D in their system. This immediately made me want to continue what I was doing which was surfing because if you’re surfing you’re in direct sunlight. Sunlight is vitamin D aka cholecalciferol.

Another commonality with cases was that many older aged individuals were having a harder time fighting off the virus when exposed. They also noticed people with weak immune systems and weak respiratory systems were more susceptible to dying from it.

So now that we’ve done a breakdown of what GSH is and captured its role in this pandemic, wait what is its role? The answer to this is we are still figuring it out, however this is what we got so far:

Glutathione (GSH) is made in every cell of our bodies particularly the liver. It’s known to be an asset for our defense system, aka our immune system. It fights against viruses and bacteria. It makes sense then that more of this antioxidant flowing through our bodies would increase our chances of fighting off COVID-19. GSH depletion by default is going to lead to higher susceptibility for infection. In other words you’re more likely to get rocked by the virus if you have lower amounts of GSH than if you had higher.

It’s a good idea to maintain high levels of GSH and vitamin D. How can you do that? Take GSH supplements like prosurfer Casey Willax. Take vitamin gummies- I prefer the gummies. Or spend an hour a day in direct sunlight.

In conclusion, masks can prevent you from intaking the virus-possibly- that’s quite true. But upping your doses of these particular vitamins and antioxidants will be your best defense if the time comes when you’re exposed to the virus.

To find out more on how to up your doses of GSH as well as look younger, stay tune for my next article!
